General History Empty The Wardens

on Sun Sep 01, 2019 6:38 pm
Though they have not been seen by human eyes in almost a century, the wardens remain in the memory of mankind rather vividly, with tales of them single-handedly wiping out entire armies still being told to this day and the title of Lord or Lady being only reserved to them, even in the kingdom.

According to legends, the wardens, true to their name, were created as protectors of their people, with each of them having a unique ability with an endless source of power bestowed upon them by the Ya'ari goddess, the Great Mother. In the event of the death of one of the wardens, their source, a gem known as the Warden's Heart, chooses their successor. As such the chain has held strong from the beginning of time to the five wardens we know of today.

Lady Luna, “The Siren”, Warden of the Moon
By far the oldest of the wardens, it is not unreasonable to assume that it was in fact her name that has become nigh synonymous with the word moon, not the moon inspiring her name.
Despite her direct control over the element of water, it is not her ability to conjure a raging tempest, or freeze her surroundings in the blink of an eye, that inspires the fear of her on the battlefield, nor her title. Rather she is the only known mage able to control her power using her voice, a talent she also uses to massively increase the reach of her spiritual magic, allowing her to force her own emotions on anyone in hearing distance, also earning her titles like “Maiden of Grief” and “The Blade of Tears”.

Lord Andrej, “Stormbringer”, Warden of the Sun
One would think, direct control over heat, and as such fire, would stop at just that, but Lord Andrej would beg to differ, as his unique application of this ancient magic grants him the power to summon lightning, leading to him obtaining his quite impressive title of “Stormbringer”.
Though he was one of the wardens most involved in the Great War, he was rarely alone, mostly fighting side by side with his wife, the Warden of Light.

Lady Vita, “Weaver of Nature”, Warden of Life
Where a select few mages are able to influence the force of life, the Warden of Life is the only one capable of directly controlling it, not only making her the single most powerful healer in existence, but also, as Lady Vita discovered, letting her force growth upon any living thing, though most potently, plants. With the help of a few small bags of seeds she carries everywhere she goes, she has turned this possibility into a weapon, granting her the power to use vines to turn the ground itself on her opponents.

Lord Damien, “Serenity”, Warden of Death
When asked, all other wardens will agree on the most powerful mage among them being the Warden of Death, though not much is known about him. He may have preferred to keep his distance from the fields of battle, but the few he entered left no survivors behind to tell of the nature of his abilities, the source of his title, or even the function of his warden power, a force known simply as “cease”.

Lady Lucilia, “Morning Star”, Warden of Light
Quite possibly the warden that left the single strongest impression on those that encountered her, and not only due to her being an absolutely towering figure, Lucilia is a force to be reckoned with, a fact strongly supported by her title, “The Morning Star” referring to her sheer power in combat being so great, her body is unable to contain it, giving her a constant heavenly glow. Beautiful as this may have been though, her style is one of pure force, her being only the second warden to ever successfully use her power to control light itself fully offensively, which is not at all made less impressive or terrifying by the support of her beloved, the Stormkeeper.

General History Empty The Ya'ari

on Tue Sep 03, 2019 3:47 pm
According to their own belief, the ya'ari were the second people placed on this world by their goddess, the great mother. While not made entirely magical, they are infused with it, making them much more powerful than human mages, who only came to be after contact between the two races created the first half breeds. Their increased magical ability becomes immediately apparent in the effortlessness with which they are able to pick up multiple schools of magic but more subtly, though much earlier in the fact that they are not forced to rely on someone else to release their magical potential, rather being able to use it at birth, and sometimes even before that.
With this power, they were made the enemy of the kingdom even more so than humanity's own mages, leading to an entire war targeted at them. Some say it was best for them to suffer this fate, as they were the only ones strong enough to withstand the kingdom at the time, but even so, in the end they chose to surrender, ending the bloodshed and leaving this world in the hands of humans.

It has been nearly a century since even one of the ya'ari was with certainty seen in the kingdom, though from time to time, a northern noble or village beauty may be accused of not quite being who they say they are. It is quite an easy mistake to make, as the ya'ari appear very similar to humans on the first glance, only really setting themselves apart through generally being taller and nigh suspiciously fair skinned, though they have always denied using their magical powers to enhance their appearance. Only after watching them for a long time, one would start to notice that they will never grow older, once they reach the age of roughly 25, as the self healing abilities that, just as their conscious powers, exceed that of humans, easily balances out the slow deterioration which causes the ageing process. Naturally this makes them unable to lose their life to old age, theoretically allowing them to live indefinitely.

General History Empty The A'eri

on Wed Sep 04, 2019 2:23 pm
If one was to believe the ya'ari creation myth, they would also have to believe that, even before them, another race of perfect magic users was created. As their legend goes, their goddess, the Great Mother, first created a people made of magic. They were incredibly powerful, as they could draw from however much of their power as they wanted without any drawbacks, at any time. Finding themselves unrivaled like this, they became unhinged, hungering for battle, with little respect for life. Fearful of what they might do to this world, the Great Mother denied them the ability to create new sources of power in their children, forcing them to split their own power, should they wish to hand down their magic.
Furthermore she created two more races to watch this world she would leave behind; The ya'ari to watch over all things magical, with the first of her children receiving the warden's hearts as weapons to keep the aggression of the a'eri in check, and the daemar as guardians of nature.

It wasn't long until humanity first reared its head and sparked the inevitable conflict, as the a'eri thought these non magical creatures to be unworthy of even the space they inhabit, forcing the other two powers of the world to take a stance, with the daemar choosing to avoid the fight, and the ya'ari standing in defense of this new race, sparking the most brutal war in the history of this world.
Naturally, the ya'ari stood victorious, as humanity is now allowed to exist, though they themselves would never think to describe the outcome this way. Thousands of lives were lost, easily cutting the number of their people in half, yet in the end it was the wardens who finally unleashed the full potential of their powers, driving the a'eri to extinction at a cost so great, it weighs heavy on them, to this very day.
